WHAT AGE IS THE BOX FOR?
The boxes are aimed at children aged 3-8 years old but adults seem to love them too.
DO WE NEED TO LIVE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE?
Access to a garden, local park, field or woodland is all you need to take part in the activities suggested in the box. Even if you live in the middle of a city centre there is often one of these close by and the activities in the box will give you the perfect excuse to explore them more.
The growing activities in the box are all suitable for a windowsill or balcony in the absence of access to a garden.
DO YOUR BOXES CONTAIN PLASTIC?
In most cases no. At The Little Naturalists Club we are keen environmentalists and guardians of our planet and environmental lessons are taught within the subscription box content. However, we are aware that environmental issues are more complex than what they may first appear and on rare occasions plastic will be used. Plastic use is not a black and white subject but all of our packaging decisions are researched and weighed for their environmental impact before we decide to use them in the box. Sometimes none plastic options have a bigger carbon footprint or impact the environment in other ways. There's always a lot to consider.
IS IT SAFE TO FORAGE WITH CHILDREN?
Great question and one we’ve been asked many times. The short answer is that children make for some of the best foragers and it’s something that human kind has been doing for thousands and thousands of years. However it will require a lot of supervision and a lot of repetition on the adults part. Once you introduce toddlers to foraging this will open their mind to eating from the wild and close supervision will be required. It's an investment of time and energy for sure, but the rewards are great for both adult and child.
Most children learn very quickly that they must check with an adult before eating anything. Safety is talked about a lot in the boxes and most children enjoy being custodians of knowledge pertaining to edible food and their poisonous look a-likes.
The number one rule of foraging is to never eat anything that you are not 100% certain about. Rule number two is that when trying new foods it’s always important to sample them in small quantities first in order to test for allergies.
DO I REGISTER IN MY NAME OR MY CHILDS NAME?
Personalised details go on the address label on the front of the box. This can be made out to you or your child. If you are buying as a gift please put the name of the person you want to receive the box along with their address in the shipping section and your details in the billing section.
DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?
We ship to Europe (with discounted shipping rates for subscribers) but we unfortunately don't ship to any other countries at the moment. We are honouring our early subscriptions from USA/ Canada but currently not taking any more on. Since covid we have seen longer shipping times and more boxes going missing in transit. For this reasons we have paused offering them. However, as and when the covid madness is over we will look to resume this shipping service to USA/ Canada.
